10 Marketing Certifications To Power Up Your Career

eYou’ve probably seen your connections on LinkedIn stating they have digital marketing certifications from a number of different software vendors. But have you ever found yourself wondering whether any of these certifications are worth the effort or cost?

Well, I’m here to tell you they are! While some of these certifications look good on your resume, others will expand your skillset and vouch for your expertise.

I’ll explain by way of example — 10 of them, to be exact. Note that I’m not including in this post online courses but only instead am focusing on programs that lead to a certification. Plus, the list below does include some free marketing certifications.

Facebook Blueprint Certification

Facebook offers two certifications under its Blueprint Certification program: the Facebook Certified Planning Professional and the Facebook Certified Buying Professional. In addition to passing an exam for each certification, you must pass the Facebook Advertising Core Competencies exam.

Cost: $150 for each exam

Certificate Details: The certificates are valid for 12 months after which you have to take a recertification exam.

Process: You must take two secure, online proctored exams and achieve a passing score of 700 or higher on both. The number of questions may vary, but you can expect to see between 50 and 60 questions on your exam. You will have up to 75 minutes to answer all questions.

Salesforce Certified Marketing Cloud Social Specialist

Salesforce’s course is designed for people who can demonstrate knowledge, skills, and experience using the components of Social Studio in the social landscape for post creation, management and analysis of conversations, and reporting.

Cost: $200 for the first time. $100 for retaking the exam.

Certificate Details: You have to take a maintenance exam once a year.

Process: There are 60 multiple choice questions and you are allowed to take up to 90 minutes to complete the exam. You require a minimum passing score of 67%.

Google Analytics Individual Qualification (IQ)

The Google Analytics IQ is a demonstration of proficiency in Google Analytics that is available to any individual who has passed the Google Analytics IQ exam.

This is probably one of the best free marketing certifications available.

Cost: Free

Certificate Details: To renew your certification, you have to retake the exam every 18 months.

Process: You get 90 minutes to complete the exam with a passing score of 80%. If you don’t pass the exam, you can retake it in seven days.

HubSpot Content Marketing Certification

HubSpot’s Content Marketing Certification will teach you how to build scalable, repeatable processes for creating and promoting content that converts into leads and new customers.

Cost: Free

Certificate Details: To renew your certification, you have to retake the exam every 13 months.

Process: You must get a minimum passing score of 75% on the final exam. There are 60 questions on this exam.

HubSpot Email Marketing Certification

The HubSpot Email Marketing Certification is an advanced email marketing course that covers concepts like lifecycle marketing, segmentation, email design, deliverability, analytics, and optimization.

Cost: Free

Certificate Details: The certificate is valid for 13 months after which you have to retake the test.

Process: You have to get a minimum score of 75% on the exam which has 60 questions.

Google AdWords certification

The Google Adwords certification demonstrates that users have proficiency in basic and advanced aspects of AdWords.

Cost: Free

Certificate Details: Each certificate is valid for 12 months after which you have to retake the exam.

Process: You have to complete two AdWords certification exams, one in AdWords Fundamentals and the other a choice between Search Advertising, Display Advertising, Mobile Advertising, Video Advertising, or Shopping Advertising.

Marketo Certified Expert

Marketing automation software, Marketo, offers a Marketo Certified Expert course that validates competency, expertise, and operational knowledge in the broad use of Marketo.

Cost: $225 every time you take the exam

Certificate Details: The certificate is valid for 2 years after which you have to be re-certified.

Process: There are roughly 75 questions, and you get 90 minutes to complete the exam. The minimum passing score is 70%.

Marketo Specializations

In addition to becoming a Marketo Certified Expert, you can complete specializations in:

  • Analytics Attribution Specialist
  • Creative Assets Specialist
  • Email Deliverability Specialist
  • Nurture & Engagement Specialist
  • Programs & Campaigns Specialist

Cost: $25 for each specialization

Certificate Details: The website does not specify how long the certificates are valid.

Process: For each specialization, there are 25-30 questions, and you get 60 minutes to complete the exam. The minimum passing score is 75%.

HubSpot Inbound Certification

The HubSpot Inbound Certification covers the fundamentals of the inbound marketing methodology.

Cost: Free

Certificate Details: Certification badges and certificates are valid for 13 months from the date they were attained.

Process: There are 60 questions and the minimum passing score is 75%.

HubSpot Inbound Sales Certification

The HubSpot Inbound Certification introduces users to the fundamentals of Inbound Sales. Topics vary from identifying potential buyers, to developing outreach strategies, and to building personalized presentations.

Cost: Free

Certificate Details: Certification badges and certificates are valid for 13 months from the date they were attained.

Process: There are 60 questions and the minimum passing score is 75%.

In summary, seek out certifications that will benefit your career and personal growth. It can be fulfilling to learn something new.

While some of these marketing certifications are expensive, you can ask your employer to help cover the cost of the certification. Otherwise, try to start out with the free digital marketing certifications.
