Analyze Transaction Reports with DataHero and Braintree

February 5th, 2014

Today, we’re thrilled to announce a new partnership with Braintree, the leading online payments platform. Now you can dig deeper into your transactional data with DataHero and analyze transactions over time, easily visualize revenue by credit card, customer or status, and chart your revenue by location. DataHero automatically categorizes your data, analyzes it for patterns, and suggests the most relevant charts to you.

By connecting DataHero to your Braintree account you can answer questions like:

  • How does my revenue change depending on the day of the week?
  • Which companies contribute the most to my revenue?
  • Which states are my transactions coming from?

After you’ve signed up for your free DataHero account, connect DataHero to your Braintree account then import the Transactions reports to get started. Here are a few examples of the questions you can explore.

Revenue By Day of Week

Step 1: Click Create A New Chart

Step 2: Drag on the following attributes:

  • Transaction Date (UTC)
  • Amount

Step 3: Click the “Start Editing Chart” button to see the details of your chart

Step 4: Under the Date attribute, click the dropdown and select “Day of Week”

DataHero automatically creates the best chart for you based on patterns in your data, in this case a column chart. Now you can easily compare transactions by day of the week.

This chart can now be your starting point for further customization. For example, change the time grouping to reflect transactions by week or even hour. You can also drag on other attributes like Credit Card Type to see how revenue is broken down by day of week and credit card.

Revenue by Company

Step 1: Click Create A New Chart

Step 2: Drag on the following attributes:

  • Transaction Date (UTC)
  • Amount
  • Company

Step 3: Click “Type” in the top left of the page to change the chart type then click Column.

DataHero then creates a chart displaying your revenue by customer and date.

Change the order of the company by revenue by clicking the dropdown menu under Amount.

Transactions by Location

Step 1: Click Create A New Chart

Step 2: Drag on the following attributes:

  • Billing State/Region
  • Amount

Step 3: Click on the “Edit Your Chart” button and select the dropdown above Amount to display Average.

Because you dragged on a location attribute, DataHero knows to create a map to display your transactions geographically and is now showing you the average transaction size for each state.

There are many more questions that you can answer using DataHero and Braintree, these are just a few to get you started. Give it a try by creating a free DataHero account and importing your transactions today.
